SELF PROMOTION

Main Page

If you keep yourself hidden, you will not be a working actor.

In the entertainment business, self-promotion is very important and can be the key to your success.  One of the best ways to introduce yourself to people is through mailings to agents, casting directors, producers and production companies.  Acting Depot makes this process easy by offering our members instant access to mailing lists, which include contact information for industry decision makers in Los Angeles, New York, and all points in between.

In order to get ahead in this business you need to be just as good at marketing yourself as you are at the craft of acting.  An actor who has less acting ability than you may get more parts and more opportunities just because that person is better at self-promotion.

Mailings to an agent should include your photo and resume, along with a very brief cover letter asking for an interview regarding representation.  Remember to keep it short and sweet.

Mailings to casting directors must include a photo along with your resume.  It isn’t always necessary to send a cover letter to casting directors, but you can if you’d like.   If so, you may send a short note asking for nothing more than an interview at the casting director’s convenience.

In addition to agents and casting directors, you should send mailings to producers and production companies.  This is an especially good idea if you are not currently represented by an agent.   Producers working with un-represented talent can sometimes avoid the process of salary negotiations and other issues that arise when an agent is involved.  This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to get an agent, though, it just demonstrates how you as an actor have opportunities either way.

Mailings to agents, casting directors, producers and production companies are a great way to get the self-promotion process started.   Our mailing lists allow members to have the tools needed to introduce themselves to industry decision makers.  Remember, it’s up to you to make sure people know who you are.
